Difference between 5g and 5g wifi.
Of late the term, 5g is ubiquitous on the internet. Qualcomm says 5G as, “5G will elevate the mobile network to not only interconnect people, but also interconnect and control machines, objects, and devices. It will deliver new levels of performance and efficiency that will empower new user experiences and connect new industries.” This arises the doubt what exactly is the difference between 5g and our existing 5g wifi modem. Let’s see what is 5g vs 5g wifi.
What is 5G?
5g is the 5th generation of wireless technology for mobile phone networks. Similarly, 4g is the 4th generation. 5G in wifi merely represents the 5 GHz band which the router is signalling. ‘5G’ is just the name given to the network connection. I’m tabulating the key differences below
5g vs 5g wifi
|5G mobile network||5Ghz wifi|
|5th generation of cellular technology||Name used for 5ghz band in a router|
|Bandwidth includes 1 GHz to millimeter-wave.||Usually 5030–5091 Mhz|
|Supported speed is up to 20 Gbps under lab conditions.|| It supports speed up to 1300 Mbps.|
|Used for commercial deployment||Used for domestic connection|
|The range is high in the range of kilometers||The range is just sufficient for indoor usage.|
5G is a different context with totally different infrastructure. 5G in a wifi router is just 5 GHz band which are named as 5G by the router manufacturers to distinguish between 2.4 GHz and 5 GHz bands.
