ELAC Debut 2.0 F6.2

This floorstander will cost you a tad more than $750. But the spending is worth it. It is also available for under $750 sometimes.  This is a speaker designed by the famous designer Andrew Jones. He makes costly speakers and Elac made him make a great sounding speaker at nominal cost. Hence, it is one of the best floorstanding speakers for under $750.

It looks great and made really well. It is a 3-way speaker. It can be used for both music and movies. It is such a convenient pair of speakers. It has a nominal impedance of 6 ohms. It is the flagship of the debut 2.0 series and also has matching speakers for a home theatre setup.

The sensitivity of these speakers is low at 87db @2.83v/1m. With the 6-ohm nominal impedance, you would need a beefy amplifier to bring out the full potential of these speakers.

The crossover frequency is set at 90Hz and 2200Hz.

Build quality

It uses a Triple 6-1/2″ Aramid Fiber speaker for bass and midrange driver. One 6.5 inch driver acts as a midrange driver and the remaining two 6.5 inch drivers act as bass drivers. It is adjoined by a capable tweeter for high frequencies. It is a one-inch cloth dome tweeter. It produces a nice treble.

The speaker comes in only one color and that is Black Ash Vinyl. It looks absolutely stunning in this setup.

Hence the product is well made and the build quality is superb. There is a flared port responsible for additional bass. Overall, it is a nice speaker to own provided you have a nice amp to power these.

Sound quality

The sound quality is fantastic and it rivels many expensive speakers under or even more than $1000. The instrument sounds real and the overall sound signature is warm.

Bass

It hits hard. With a flared port, it’s even better. There are dedicated drivers for bass and the two 6.5 inch drivers do the job. The lowest it can go is 39 Hz +/- 3db and this is enough for most music. If you want more bass, you can always add a subwoofer. But the speaker as such is self-sufficient.

Mids

There is a dedicated mid-range driver for mid-range duties. The driver is again a 6.5-inch cone. This gives great authority to the sound. It sounds large and hits hard. It is not a thin-sounding expensive speaker around but has a proper midrange.

Treble.

There is a 1-inch cloth dome tweeter for high-frequency duties. It is not an ear-piercing tweeter but a soft, smooth warm sounding one. You will not get fatigued from using this speaker thanks to the tweeter. The highs are crisp but not sharp. I loved the sound.

The soundstage is expansive and the imaging is good. Not as good as coaxial speakers but the image is very good.

  • Warm sounding

  • Good build
